Sophomore guard Javanna Bernard and junior forward Ryan McCorkle have been named Female and Male Athletes of the Month for the month of December.
Bernard, a Holy Cross High School product from Waterbury, CT averaged 19.6 points per game. In nine games during the month of December, Bernard grabbed 4 rebounds per game and a total of 6 assists.
The 5'4" shooting guard also had 6 blocks and a team high 16 steals in the month. On December 1st, Bernard notched a career high 28 points against American Mideast rival Point Park University. She scored in double figures in all nine contests with her lowest output being 13 points against Daemen College on December 21st.
Bernard's 19.125 points per game ranks her 13th in NAIA Division II scoring, while she's 8th in total scoring the 306 points on the season. Bernard is 4th in Division II with 49 total 3 point field goals made and 6th with 3.063 3 point field goals per game. After collected 16 steals in December, Bernard raised her season total to 35, good for 39th in the country.
Her 306 points on the season has her just shy of her season total from last year (313). Through 39 career games for the Falcons, Bernard is averaging 15.9 points per games, 3.9 rebounds per game and 2.2 steals per game.
Ryan McCorkle, a Shoreline CC transfer from Bellevue, WA averaged 10. 5 points per game in December after averaging 5.3 points in November. The 6'5 junior forward scored a career high 18 points on December 11th against American Mideast foe Wilberforce University.
McCorkle posted double figure points in five of eight games in December, a mark he only reached once in November. Through the month of December, McCorkle also grabbed 3.5 rebounds per game and 1.5 assists per contest. He shot 39 percent from the field and 45 percent from behind the arc.
Ryan is currently 2nd on the team in scoring on the year with 7.88 points per game. McCorkle is 4th in rebounding at 2.94 per game and his 1 assist per game average puts in 6th best on the Falcons.
