Victoria, TX -- LSU-Alexandria's Nick Jones and Fisher College's Chris O'Hare were named player and pitcher of the year for the Association of Independent Institutions All-Conference Baseball Team released on Wednesday.
California State-San Marcos coach Dennis Pugh was named the conference coach of the year.
Jones, a senior designated hitter from Lacomb, La., compiled a .307 batting average with 10 doubles, seven home runs and five triples for the Generals. He had a .667 slugging percentage along with 38 RBI and 29 runs scored in 39 games.
O'Hare, a senior left-handed pitcher from Lynnfield, MA., was dominating on the mound compiling a 0.15 ERA in 59 innings pitched as he allowed just five runs, including one earned. He finished the regular season with a 9-0 record and allowed 23 hits and 22 walks, while striking out 98 in 10 appearances.
He leads the NAIA rankings in seven categories including opponent batting average (0.114), total hits allowed (23), hits allowed per 9 innings (3.51), batters struck out per 9 innings (14.95), total earned runs allowed (1), earned run average (0.15) and total runs allowed (5).
Joining O'Hare on the first team as starting pitchers were James Dykstra and Steve Messner of CSUSM and Corey Thomas of LSUA, while Ashford's Eric Musselman was named as a relief pitcher.
The first-team infield included catchers Kody Sepulveda of CSUSM and Winn Smith of LSUA, first baseman Brandon Bentson of CSUSM, second baseman Jay Bell of LSUA, third baseman Chad Kruse of Houston-Victoria, shortstop Tyler Bernard of CSUSM, infielder James Sloan of LSUA, and Jones as designated hitter.
Earning recognition in the outfield on the first team were Dylan Edmiston of LSUA, Eirdani Dume of Fisher, Michael Bruns of Ashford and Kyle Secciani of CSUSM.
Second-team honors went to catcher Brandon Bohanon of UHV, first baseman Yuilano Rodriguez of Fisher, third baseman Kenny Balzer of CSUSM, shortstops RJ Roberts of Ashford and Dylan Blaha of UHV, designated hitter Ray Yesh of Rochester and infielder Victor Lebron of Fisher. Named in the outfield were Luke Stobl of Rochester and Joshua Boyd of Fisher.
The second-team pitching staff included starters Corey Thomas of LSUA and Steven Sotiropolous of Ashford and reliever Stefan Porche of LSUA.
