Lynn, Mass.—Fisher College moves to 6-21 on the season as they take two from Pine Manor College Saturday afternoon at Fisher's home field. The Falcons took game one by a score of 16-1 and game two 12-0.
Mikayla Zimmerman (Corona, Calif.) went 5-7 on the afternoon while Madison Carroll (Methuen, Mass.) went 4-4 to lead the offense for the Falcons.
Game 1
The Gators of Pine Manor started a two-out rally in the first inning when Vanessa Soto (Fontana, Calif.) hit a single but was unable to cross the plate. The Falcons took a quick 1-0 lead when Morgan Selmi (Rohnert Park, Calif.) led off with a double to left center. Zimmerman then doubled to left center to bring Selmi home, but Zimmerman was stranded at second when the Gators were able to retire the next two Falcons.
Jayla Vega (Hoboken, N.J.) was a powerhouse on the mound and got a 1-2-3 inning before the Falcons jumped far ahead of the Gators in the second inning. Cassy Pillard (Jefferson, N.H.) led off the inning with a walk and later started the scoring with a couple of walks and a single by Madison Carroll. Fisher went up 9-0 over the Gators.
Fisher kept the Gators scoreless in the third inning, but Chardonai Rose (Fairfield, Calif.) kept the Falcons to two runs in the bottom half of the inning.
In the top of the fourth inning, Soto reached on a single, moved to second on the throw, and scored two pitches later. The Falcons were up 9-1 heading to the bottom of the fourth. Fisher tacked on five runs on six hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Vega struck out two and Fisher gunned out a Gator trying to get an extra base to end the first game.
Vega got the win in the circle fanning nine and only giving up two hits. Zimmerman led the offense going 3-4 while Madison Carroll went 2-3.
Game 2
Zimmerman got the start and the win in the circle, starting the inning off fanning the first batter and forcing the next two batters to ground out. The Falcons threatened, but were unable to produce any runs in the bottom of the first with back-to-back singles by Vega and Zimmerman. The Gators threatened again with a runner on third, but the Falcons got out of the jam. In the bottom half of the second, Madison Carroll started the inning off with a one-out single before getting forced out at second. Fisher was held scoreless in the inning.
Michala Clea (Washington, D.C.) led off the top of the third inning with a single, but two straight pop ups and a line out to center got the Falcons out of the inning. Fisher then got their bats going in the bottom half of the third with a Selmi single. Vega followed with a single before three straight walks to give Fisher their first two runs of the game. Pillard and Madison Carroll then hit back-to-back singles to increase the Fisher lead to 4-0 over the Gators. Fisher added four hits in the inning taking a 12-0 lead heading to the fourth.
In the top of the fourth inning, Zimmerman fanned two batters and forced a third to strike out, keeping the Gators off the base path. The Falcons had runners on first and second when Vega lined out to left field and Ashayla Burrell (Worcester, Mass.) was doubled off at second. Soto, who came in as relief in the third inning for the Gators, got out of the inning unharmed. The Falcons were able to get a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the fifth to complete the game with a 12-0 victory.
Zimmerman earned her third win of the season in the circle, allowing one hit and striking out six. Vega (3-4), Zimmerman (2-3), Madison Carroll (2-2), and Sharayah Harris (1-1) (Brockton, Mass.) were offensive leaders for the Falcons in the victory.
The Falcons return to action tomorrow at Breed Field in Lynn, Mass.,when they take on the University of Maine-Presque Isle at 12:00 p.m. in a non-conference double header. Pine Manor will take on New Rochelle in Chestnut Hill, Mass., at 12:00 p.m.
