Boston, MA - The Fisher College Falcons improved their season record with a victory over Trinity College in a non-conference matchup with a score of 71-62. Fisher moves to 16-5 on the season while Trinity drops to 13-5.
Although Fisher won the tip, Trinity took a quick 4-1 lead over the Falcons. Darrell Grady (Staten Island, NY) hit a layup to bring the Falcons within two points. Trinity hit the line for a free throw to bring the score to 5-3. OJ Moore (Houston, TX) hit a layup to knot the game at five.
The game continued with a fast pace, draining the clock with Trinity taking a 16-11. Fisher went on a seven-point run to take an 18-16 lead. The Falcons continued to pace the game, allowing the Bantams only four points while Fisher held onto their lead, going up 25-20. Grady hit a layup while getting fouled to head to the line to take a free throw. With Grady hitting the shot and the free throw, the Falcons took an eight-point lead, 28-20.
Andrew Hurd hit a Trinity three-pointer to bring the Bantams within five, but not before Moore hit a jumper to bring the Falcons' lead back to seven, 30-23. With just under three minutes in the first half, Tyler Shular (Norwalk, CT) went up for a layup, but Ed Ogundeko blocked his shot and capitalized by adding two points to Trinity's score, Falcons up 30-27. Time expired on the clock for the first half with the score freezing at 34-29 in favor of the Falcons.
Moore paced the Falcons with 11 points and three rebounds in the first half. Grady and Shular both helped Fisher to their 34-29 lead with five points apiece. Shular grabbed two rebounds in the first half.
Ogundeko led the Bantams with 10 points in the half, grabbing four rebounds. Alexander Conaway and Andrew Hurd both scored five points, with Conaway grabbing two rebounds and Hurd grabbing three.
Chris Green (Middle Island, NY) started the second half on a positive note for the Falcons, hitting a jumper to give the Falcons a 36-29 lead. The Bantams managed to net a shot, but fouled Geodice Ortiz (Denver, CO) on the Falcons' end of the court. Ortiz netted one of his two free throws to give the Falcons a 39-35 lead. Jameel Yousif (Glendale, AZ) netted a layup to give the Falcons a six-point lead, 41-35.
Hurd checked into the game for the Bantams and hit a three-pointer to bring the score to 42-38 in favor of the Falcons. Chris Turnbull brought Trinity within one, hitting a layup while getting fouled. While at the line, he netted his free throw, 42-41. Ira Haywood (Las Vegas, NV) hit jumper to bring the Falcons' lead to 44-41. Moore, while getting knocked down, hit a backward layup to increase Fisher's lead to five, 46-41.
With just over 13 minutes left, Moore swished a three-pointer to bring the score to 49-41. Back-to-back threes for Trinity brought them back within two of the Falcons, 49-47. Yousif got a pass from Grady and took the shot from the outside corner to make a three-pointer for the Falcons, 52-47 Fisher lead. Fisher took a 10-point lead, forcing a Trinity timeout with 9:11 left in the game, 57-47. Both teams continued the pace and hit jumpers, but the Falcons maintained the lead, 60-56.
Yousif netted a three-pointer in a loud gym, increasing their lead by five, 65-56. Trinity scored four in an attempt to cut Fisher's lead, bringing the score to 66-60, with 1:50 remaining in the game. Fisher brought its score to 71 while Trinity managed two of its own, bringing the score to 71-62 with just six seconds remaining. Fisher called a timeout, with possession of the ball. The Falcons held onto the ball until the buzzer, finalizing the score at 71-62 with a Falcon victory.
Moore finished the evening with 19 points and five rebounds, leading the Falcons to their victory. Yousif, while playing 15 minutes, managed 10 points and three rebounds. Shular, Ortiz, and Grady were other key Falcons in the win.
Ogundeko managed a double-double for the Bantams, scoring 20 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in the loss. Hurd scored 11 points and managed three rebounds for Trinity. Other key Bantams were Conaway, Turnbull, and George Papadeas.
Trinity returns to action on Saturday, January 24, when the team travels to Amherst College for a 3:00 pm tip-off. Fisher returns to Fectau-Leary Gymnasium on Saturday, when it takes on Framingham State University in the second game of a double header at 3:00 pm.
