Fisher Squeaks by UMFK 68-64

Fort Kent, ME – The University of Maine-Fort Kent men's basketball team dropped a tight contest Saturday afternoon to Fisher College of Boston 68-64. The Falcons overcame a nine-point halftime deficit and shot 57 percent in the second half to beat the Bengals.

The Bengals started the game off strong, taking an early 15-9 lead on a James Givens' three-point try that forced a Fisher timeout. The game went back and forth for most of the half until UMFK extended it to 10 points, 39-29, after back-to-back threes from Jorge Matesanz and Mauro Vicic. The Bengals hit six threes and shot 45 percent in the first half.

The game was a tale of two halves, however, as Fisher's offense started to click and UMFK went cold on the floor. The Bengals shot just 36 percent from the floor in the second half, and only two of 13 (15 percent) from the three-point line. UMFK led by as much as 12 on a Jake Rioux three with 13:52 to go, but it was all Falcons from there as they outscored UMFK 30-14 the rest of the way.

UMFK was led by Joe McCloskey's game highs of 20 points and 14 rebounds. Qaadir Ali added 11 points and seven assists. Rioux hit three three-pointers for ninepoints, Vicic had eight points, and Marquis Glenn had seven points and seven rebounds.

Fisher was led by Tylar Shular's 18 points, Orlando Zayas' 11, and Ira Haywood's 10.

The Falcons meet UMFK again on December 20 at their home court at Feacteau-Leary Gymnasium in Lynn, MA.
