Boston, MA – The Fisher College men's basketball team (3-1) pressed for a victory of Cazenovia College (1-2) with a score of 98-93.
Chris Green (Middle Island, NY) started hot for the Falcons, hitting a three-point shot 13 seconds after tip-off. After Green's three, the Falcons fell behind the Wildcats in the next few minutes. With five minutes played, the Wildcats led 15-12.
Geodice Ortiz (Denver, CO) hit two free throws in the 11th minute to tie the game at 20 points. Ira Haywood (Las Vegas, NV) stepped to the line and hit two free throws to put the Falcons ahead 22-20. Green hit another three to total the Falcons score at 26 before Wildcat player Daniel Cunningham hit a three to knot the game at 26. Both teams fought back and forth before time ran out in the first half. Heading into half time the score was in Cazenovia's favor with a score of 40-37.
For the first half, Ortiz set the tone for the Falcons, scoring 13 points and eight rebounds. Other Falcons to contribute in the first half were Green (6 points and 1 rebound) and O.J. Moore (Houston, TX) (7 points and 3 rebounds).
Moore opened the second half with a layup to bring the Falcons within one point (40-39). Tyler Shular (Norwalk, CT) hit a three-point shot to again tie the game (42). With 15:03 left in the game, Darrell Grady (Staten Island, NY) hit a layup and then a free throw to put the Falcons up 52-46.
Haywood hit a free throw with a minute and a half left to give the Falcons a 10-point lead (93-83).
Cazenovia hit two free throws, making the score 93-90 in Fisher's favor. Marquane Silvers hit a free throw for the Wildcats with two seconds left on the clock and the score at 96-93. Moore hit two free throws with one second left to finalize the score Fisher 98, Cazenovia 93.
Ortiz finished the game with a double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds) helping the Falcons to their victory. Moore led the team, scoring 19 points while Haywood (18), Shular (16), Ortiz (16), and Green (11) also scored double digits.
Fisher hits the court again on Saturday, November 22, in the second game of a double header. The men will tip-off at 2:00 pm against Johnson and Wales of Rhode Island after the women's team takes on Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts at 12:00 pm.
