POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. (Box Score) No. 2 Northwood University (31-3) cruised by Fisher College (15-15) 91-64 Thursday night in the first round of the NAIA Division II National Basketball Tournament held at the College of the Ozarks.
The Fisher Falcons drew first blood, netting the first two points on an Oscar Brown jumper at the 19:31 mark. Northwood's Thierno Agne tied the game with a jumper of his own 20 seconds later. That was as close as the Falcons would come for the rest of the game as the Seahawks would take over from there.
By the 9:27 mark of the first half, the blue and white went on a 20-10 run to enjoy a double digit point advantage. The Sun Conference Player of the Year Jonathan Dunn had a game high 15 points at the end of the first 20 minutes. Agne added 10 with 6 rebounds before the break. NU shot 57.6% as a team in that half.
For Fisher, junior Denise Norford led his team with 13 points and fought for 5 rebounds. The Falcons' offense couldn't get their buckets to sink, firing only 31.3% from the floor and 10% from behind the arch before the half.
Northwood remained hot after coming out of the locker room and continued to pile on the points. The 49-28 half time score would be extended to 73-41 at the 11:00 minute mark, a 32 point deficit.
Coach Lindberg's Falcons put a 19-6 run together with just under 6:00 minutes to go in regulation. The Seahawks did not break, and finished off Fisher 91-64.
The Seahawks kept their shooting percentages high, netting 55.9% of their shots from the floor and 77.8% from the foul line. All of Fisher's percentages improved in the second half. They finished shooting 37.1% in field goals and 63.2% in 3-pointers.
Both teams had four players in double-digit figures. For Northwood, Dunn led all scorers with 25 points. Patrick Horstmann and Thierno Agne came close to double-double performances, tabbing 14 points with 7 rebounds and 13 points with 7 rebounds respectively. Noah Keeton added 13 in the effort.
Fisher's Louis Williams led his team in scoring with 17 points, followed by Dennis Norford with 16. Christian Hammond totaled 15 points and Casey Pursell also fell just short of a double-double with 10 points and 9 boards.
