LYNN, MASS. – Senior right-hander Maylo Sierra (Bartlesville, Okla.) spun a complete game one-hitter in the nightcap as the Fisher College Baseball team took both ends of the home opening double-header from the University of Maine-Fort Kent. It was the first ever matchup between the two former Sunrise Conference instructions as the Bengals began their baseball program earlier this academic year.
Fisher picked up the game one win, by a 9-4 final before Sierra empathically slammed the door shut in a 13-0 game two rout. The Falcons are now 6-11, winner of their last four, while the Bengals slide to 2-15 on the year.
GAME ONE: Fisher College 9, Maine-Fort Kent 4 (Final)
Trailing 2-0 after the top of the first, the Falcons struck early and often as they came from behind for the 9-4 victory.
Junior Angel Feliz (Santo Domingo, D.R.) went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three stolen bases to lead the Fisher offense while senior Armando Torres (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) and Daniel Peralta also recorded multi-hit nights at the plate. Torres and Peralta each went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the series opening win. Senior Yariel Salinas (San Juan, Puerto Rico) chased home a pair of runs with his game-tying 2 RBI double in the first.
Senior left-hander Yadiel Cuadrado (Yabucoa, Puerto Rico) picked up his first win of the campaign as he tossed five innings, allowing four runs (all earned) on five hits and striking out 10. Sophomores Randy Espinal (Lawrence, Mass.) and Armando Morillo (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) struck out a hitter each in their clean frames, respectively.
For the Bengals. Andre Carvalho and Amadeo Lamenza each had RBI base knocks while Branden Erb and Caleb Martinez tallied the other hits in the opener. Vincent Palazzo was credited with the loss on the mound as the right-hander surrendered seven runs (five earned) on five hits while recording four strikeouts and four walks over his 3.2 innings of work. Ky Pacheco tossed the final 2.1 frames allowing just two runs (one earned) on three hits and fanning five.
GAME TWO: Fisher College 13, Maine-Fort Kent 0 (Final)
Sierra came within one out of registering a no-hitter as the Falcons routed their way to a 13-0 game two final. The Dominican native, Sierra, improved to 2-1 on the season with his complete game effort. Sierra struck out twelve and issued just one walk and the lone hit over his seven innings of work.
Offensively, the Falcons were paced by senior John Batista (Lawrence, Mass.). The veteran outfielder was 3-for-4 with four RBI, including three doubles, in the lopsided win. Classmate Gabriel Rivera (Miramar, Fla.) finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and a triple while junior Moises Febrillet (San Cristobal, D.R.) added a pair of RBI on his 1-for-4 showing at the dish.
Maine-Fort Kent saw starter Riley Parsons receive the loss as he went 3.1 innings allowing seven runs (six earned) on three hits while walking five and striking out three. Right-handers Seth Walker and Hiya Ota each allowed three hits as they finished the game on the bump. Martinez was the lone Bengal to record a hit in the nightcap.
Both teams return to action at Fraser Field tomorrow afternoon. First pitch of the series finale is scheduled for 12pm.
