Falcons close out conference schedule with 88-50 loss to Point Park University
WEST MIFFLIN, PA. -- Fisher College fell to Point Park University, 88-50 Sunday afternooon to close out their American Mideast Conference Schedule. The Pioneers were too much for the Falcons as the host collected their 20th win of the season.
The Pioneers, ranked No. 23 in Monday's NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, improved to 20-5 overall and 11-1 in the AMC. Fisher fell to 0-28 overall and 0-14 in the AMC.
Point Park was up 46-28 at halftime, and all 15 of its players had already been in the game at that point. For the day, the Pioneers had 14 different players score. Joncelyn Peterkin led the scoring with 13 points and eight rebounds, and reserve post player Anna-Maria Boshkova was close behind with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.
No Point Park starter played more than 15 minutes, and they saw just a couple of minutes in the second half. The Pioneers got 55 points from their bench, which included nine from Sarah Sandin, seven each from Teresa Davis and Ashley Campbell, and six from Brittany Dunmire.
Leading 46-28 at halftime, the Point Park starters put together a quick, 10-2 run in the first three minutes of the second half and exited the game with the score 56-30. They played only a couple of minutes each the rest of the way. Point Park's lead reached 40 points, 78-38, with 7:31 to go.
Point Park was ahead, 10-3, after less than two minutes as Emily Schartner hit two 3-pointers for six of her eight points. Fisher got back into it at 15-10 at the 15:28 mark, but Point Park outscored the Falcons, 27-5 over the next 11 minutes. By then, the Pioneers were ahead, 42-20, with 4:05 left in the half.
Point Park's point guards shared the ball well as starter April Austin totaled four points, five assists and three steals. Reserve point guards Davis and Maura McCaslin came up with three and four assists, respectively.
Point Park shot 39.6 percent, and held Fisher to 31.5 percent. The PIoneers controlled the boards, 65-30, and won the turnover battle, 20-11.
Javanna Bernard led Fisher with 24 points. Pamala Bounenkhoune had 11 points in 15 minutes before leaving the game with a knee injury. Fisher had six players available, and Bounenkhoune was one of two who went down with an injury before the game was through.
Fisher will close out the regular season on Thursday when they host the University of Maine - Agusta. Tip-off is schedule for 5pm.
