Boston, MA - The Fisher College men's soccer team lost back to back conference games against visiting Roberts Wesleyan College. On Friday night the Falcons fell 6-0, then lost 12-0 in the Saturday afternoon rematch.
In Friday's encounter, the Falcons started strong, going toe to toe with the visitors during the opening 28 minutes. Roberts Wesleyan supplied heavy pressure on the Falcons goal but goalkeeper John Del Valle (Stoughton, MA/ Massasoit CC) was equal to the task, recording five saves early in the game.
However, Roberts Wesleyan was able to open the scoring in the 29th minute when winger Stephen Stewert beat Fisher's Gary Maldonado (Lawrence, MA/ Lawrence HS) down the wing and found Dominic Coco all alone 12 yards from goal. Coco's low driven shot to the corner proved to be the winner on the night.
Just two minutes later Roberts Wesleyan added to their lead when Donny Wilson slotted home a penalty kick following a questionable call in the Falcon's box. Roberts Wesleyan tallied a third first half goal when Ricky DiPasquale beat keeper Del Valle.
The second half began with a flurry of chances for each team and in the 57th minute Dominic Coco was able to notch his second goal of the match. Roberts Wesleyan finished off their scoring late in the game when Caleb Orbaker had two goals just 27 seconds apart from each other.
In the loss Flacons goalie Del Valle recorded 13 saves while Roberts Wesleyan's net-minder Eric Read had one save.
In Saturday's rematch Roberts Wesleyan proved victorious again. Michael Cunningham got the scoring started for RWC with a goal in the 9th and 12th minute. The defensive issues continued for the Falcons in the 13th minute when Johnny Lobene beat goalkeeper Del Valle. Lobene added a second goal just 7 minutes later.
Six different Robert Wesleyan players found the score sheet after the goals from Cunningham and Lobene. Tyler Fiamengo put away the fifth first half goal before Brent Owens, Dominic Coco, Jesus Paesch, Ben Conley, and Cory Hyde each beat goalkeeper Del Valle in the second half.
Del Valle recorded 18 saves in Fisher's fourth consecutive loss. With the weekend sweep, the Falcons fall to 0-3 in American Mideast Conference play and 0-4 overall. They will return to action next weekend when the travel to Walsh University on Friday, September 23rd and Point Park University on September 24th and 25th.
