It was two out of two for the Fisher College Men's Basketball team as they extended their unbeaten start to the season to two with a 74-65 win over visiting Vermont Tech College. The Falcons used balanced scoring to overcome a Vermont Tech team that forced 17 lead changes.
Senior Ryan McCorkle paced the Falcons with 16 points on 5 for 16 shooting while adding 9 rebounds and 2 steals. It was the 2nd game in a row McCorkle reached double figures after scoring 15 points against Maine-Machias last Saturday.
The visiting Knights got out to an early lead when Klye Kissenberth knocked down the first of Vermont Tech's 7 three-pointers on the night. As expected the Falcons quickly evened the score on a McCorkle 15 footer.
Vermont Tech led by as many as 9 with 5 minutes to go but the Falcons were able to lock down defensively and recapture the lead at the break with a 37-36 advantage.
Neither team shot the ball well in the 2nd half but Fisher was able to use 12 second half offensive rebounds to pace themselves to a 37-29 scoring advantage.
Tied at 61 with just over 4 minutes left in the game, the Falcons increased their defensive intensity and forced Vermont Tech into consecutive turnovers. Sophomore Sam Nwadike led the Falcons' defensive adjustments, finishing the game with 3 of Fisher's 10 steals on the night. Nwadike also contributed 6 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists.
Freshman Dana Hines gave the Falcons a much needed 15 points and 10 rebounds in 28 minutes off the bench. Junior point guard Kyle Murphy added 12 points and 4 assists in the victory.
